Image compression is a trade-off between file size and visual detail. Typly makes that decision visible: select an output format, set the quality, and create a fresh export without sending the original image through a server.

How to do it in Typly

  1. Upload the source image and select your output destination.
  2. Choose WebP or JPG for a compressed-style export.
  3. Move the Output quality control downward in small increments.
  4. Create the output and compare it with the original before using it.

Tip: Avoid reducing quality all at once. Small steps make it easier to find the lightest acceptable export.

Choose the right settings

Reduce dimensions before sacrificing detail

A file that is much larger in pixels than its display slot wastes bytes. Select the real destination size first, then adjust quality. This usually produces a cleaner result than keeping an oversized canvas and applying aggressive compression.

Judge the output, not only the percentage

The quality slider is an encoder input rather than a universal visual score. Fine hair, fabric texture, gradients, and small lettering reveal compression problems sooner than broad flat areas, so inspect those details in the created file.

Common questions

Does Typly guarantee a particular file size?

Not yet. The current control adjusts output quality, and the resulting size depends on the image content, dimensions, and format. Target-size compression is a separate planned feature.

Why is PNG sometimes larger?

PNG uses lossless compression and is well suited to transparency, logos, and flat graphics. Photographic PNG files are often larger than JPG or WebP versions of the same canvas.

Make the output pack

Typly works directly in your browser. Add your images, choose the formats that matter, then create a downloadable ZIP of your selected outputs.
